Saturday, March 24, 2012 was a misty morning.

Employers are turning to social media for information about prospective employees. Some are asking candidates to log onto Facebook during job interviews, and a few have gone so far as to ask for usernames and passwords. Today’s Question: Would you be willing to share your Facebook information with potential employers?

This is an interesting one for me, since the heart of my job is social media.

First and without hesitation I’d decline. We’re in an interview to get to know each other. I’m fairly certain you could ascertain from a search - or even my twitter account - exactly how horrible I am.

Next, my account has admin rights and responsibilities to more than 30 active pages and a few apps. I would never put a brand at risk - even momentarily - for a potential job. Any firm that asked me for that is not a place I’d want to work. And if I hadn’t signed an NDA for the interview, I’d strongly consider outing the company name and request online. If I’m not passing a national security test, folks, you’re out of line.

But because of the nature of my work, I would have to demonstrate my portfolio, and I think I should approach this the way artists do online with documentation and samples… and I’d encourage other content or social media specialists to do the same.

I am now marking my page, don’t let me forget this page, don’t let me forget this page, don’t let me forget this page…

Love love love. h/t Levi Asher of http://litkicks.com/
